Today's Melt: BBW Blackberry Grapefruit (Plus Bonus How-To)

Hey!  Today I am doing a today's melt video.  I will also be including yesterday's as I forgot to put it up.

Yesterday, I melted Dole Whip from Sweet Fixations.  It had a nice throw, but it didn't last very long, I had to add 1/2 per day instead of 1/4 like I do with most SF tarts.  It is one of the best scents I have melted from this company so far.  It is pineapple and vanilla ice cream, just a very creamy pineapple scent that I will definitely be repurchasing from her.

Now, onto today's melt.  This one also didn't last that long with 1/2, so I just put in the other half.  It is Blackberry Grapefruit from the summer line of candles from Slatkin.  The description says "Fresh from the orchard, a luscious blend of sun-ripened blackberries and juicy grapefruit with a touch of creamy sandalwood."  I didn't get any grapefruit from this, just a nice creamy blackberry scent.  I turn all of my BBW candles into tarts since I don't burn candles.  Keep reading for a quick how to on turning candles into tarts.

This will only work if the opening at the top is the same width or larger than all the other parts of the candle jar.  For example, BBW candles work amazingly, but a Yankee jar candle would not.  Just sick the candle, no lid in the freezer for a few hours so the wax molecules will condense.  Then, just turn over the candle and hit the bottom until it comes out.  You could also try to pull it out by the wick.  Then, take a knife and get out the little thing at the bottom that holds the wick in place.  If it didn't already break, cut it with your knife.  This works for any jar size from Slatkin, not just the minis.

Vacation Haul

Hey everybody, I'm back from vacation and I thought I would do a haul and the highlights of the trip.  As you may know, I took a trip to Mystic, Conneticut.  I didn't get a ton of stuff, but I will share what I did get and my favorite things there were.  This is not a sponsored post.

Of course, I couldn't go on vacation without buying wax, so I got the Yankee Candle tart in Island Guava since at one of the many General Stores there, one was selling Yankee Candle stuff, with the tarts for $1.79, so I couldn't resist.  If you have ever smelled the Korres Lip Butter in Guava, it smells just like that.  A really nice and sweet Guava scent.  I went to Becca Rose Natural Body Care and got two things.  i got the Zum Bar Goat's Milk Soap in Cinnamon since I thought it would be nice for the fall.  It is a very nice cinnamon scent, not red hot at all.  At Becca Rose, I also got the Deep Steep Perfectly Potent Moisture Stick in Grapefruit Bergamot, which smells similar to Happy Hippy from LUSH.  I stayed at the Hilton and they had Peter Thomas Roth stuff in the rooms, so I took them.  I took the Moisture Infusion Facial Bar, The Mega-Rich Shampoo and Conditioner and the Mega Rich Body Lotion.  The last thing I got was a snowglobe from the Mystic Aquarium.  It has penguins on it. I also got a free water bottle from the Aquarium.

LUSH Bath Cocktail: RENT

Today, I will be sharing a bath cocktail inspired by RENT.  RENT is a musical written entirely by Jonathon Larson, who died of an aortic aneurysm at 36, a few days before the production opened off-broadway in 1996.  If you know me in real life, you know I am a theater nerd, and RENT is my favorite musical.  So, on to the bath cocktail.  There may be spoilers in this post.

For the bath bomb, use Twilight because the show starts on Christmas Eve at 9pm, during twilight.  For the bubble bar choices are The Comforter (for when Angel sees Collins and helps/comforts him), Dorothy (for Mark and Roger wishing for a nicer life) and French Kiss (one thousand sweet kisses).  For the bath melt, use Floating Island to represent Roger's emotions after he found out that his girlfriend slit her wrists in the bathroom after finding out they had HIV and writing him a note.  For the soap, use Sultana of Soap since the scent will go well with the Twilight Bath Bomb.  Use whatever for your hair products.  Use the Catastrophe Cosmetic (or any face mask) with the cocktail.  I recommend that one since the smell will go nicely with the cocktail.  After the bath, use Therapy massage bar to represent the Life Support group for people with AIDS that Angel and Collins went to.  Use the Silky Underwear dusting powder after that since the scents go nicely together.  After that, use the Twilight perfume to match the scent of the bath bomb.

Today's Melt: Candles By Victoria Honeydew Melon

Hey!  Today, I put in Honeydew Melon from CBV and it is strong, just like everything I have tried from her. This scent is nice, but I wish that is was sweeter and more juicy.  So if you like fruit scents without a ton of sweetness, then this would be good for you.

Today's Melt: Yankee Candle Pink Sands

I just thought that I should do a "What I Am Melting Today" series.  This won't be daily, since I usually use up an entire tart before starting another one.  So I will do this whenever I put in a new scent.  I want to put up more posts today and tomorrow than usual since I am going on vacation for a few days this week.  There will be a haul from that when I get back.  I will have a LUSH post later, and maybe a bath cocktail tomorrow.

Today, I am melting Pink Sands, I had to put in a half tart instead of a quarter since the throw is only okay.  I love this scent, it smells like lemon and grapefruit with a background of florals that are the ones that I like.  I can't pinpoint any specific flowers though, not my strength of scent descriptions.  This is one of my favorite scents from Yankee.  This is my last bit of the tart today and I will have a new scent tomorrow.  Overall, since I like the scent, next summer I will try the CBV one since the throw on the Yankee one is weaker than I wanted.

Wallflower Review: Vanilla Cupcake

Hey!  If you follow my blog, you would know that I recently got some Wallflowers.  This new series is to talk about them.  Scent, throw, etc.

This one is Vanilla Cupcake.  It smells like a vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream.  Smelling the oil, I thought it would be strong, but it isn't.  It is a pretty light throw but it is bakery goodness and I love it.  Since the throw was weak, I would give it a 3/5.  I think that this would be a good Wallflower for if you have one of those bedrooms that has a bathroom attatched if you are burning a baker scent in your bedroom, this would be good for the bathroom since the scents would blend and create a new bakery scent.

Overall, I will use up this bulb, but I probably won't purchase this again just because it has a weaker throw.

Haul Time!

Hey everybody!  Today I went to the mall and I bought some stuff.  It's not a very big haul, but I am really excited about what I got.  I just wanted to come right out and say that I am not being sponsored by any company mentioned and all opinions are my own.  This is not a paid review.

The first place I went to was Bath and Body Works to get some Wallflowers for my bedroom.  I got the 6 for $24 deal.  At least at my store they had all of the fall scents out in body products, candles and wallflowers.  They also had the Halloween Pocket Bacs in stock, but I didn't get any even though I wanted the pumpkin one.  Keep in mind that I am a new wax addict, so I have never really tried the fall line of Slatkin fragrancing or really any BBW fall products in general. I did smell these scents before at the end of July at my other mall where LUSH is.  Okay, onto the scents.  The first (and best) Wallflower I got is Leaves.  Leaves is the best scent from the fall line and to me smells like apple cider.  Real apple cider with that fermenting note and tangy sweetness, not apple and tons of cinnamon.  It is definitely a savory, bakery type sweet.  I am addicted to it, am getting CBV's dupe in my fall order and will definitely buy more of the Wallflowers in this scent to last me all year round.  The next one I got was Cinnamon Stick. I am usually not a huge fan of straight cinnamon, but this one was more toned down as opposed to red hot cinnamon candies or Big Red gum.  I also got Lavender & Vanilla.  This one smells exactly like the BBW Lavender Vanilla Aromatherapy Pillow Mist that I use every night.  It smells fantastic and is the perfect scent to get you ready for bed.  I also got Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin.  This one smells like a mix between a cinnamon donut from Dunkin Donuts and a not spiced pumpkin scent.  I can definitely see myself using this one.  The second to last one that I got was Marshmallow Fireside.  I get the smokey campfire and the sugary sweet marshmallow pretty equally.  A very nice scent and perfect for the winter.  The last Wallflower I got is Frosted Cupcake.  This one smells like a cupcake that is iced with vanilla buttercream icing.  I am very excited to start experiencing Wallflowers and if I like them, I will go back and get more.  I will probably get a ton of Leaves ones because I love it so much!  I had a coupon for a free travel size Signature Collection item and I guess everybody else had one too because they were almost out of all the travel sized items.  I wanted a Sweet On Paris, but they didn't have minis, so I settled for the shower gel in Malibu Heat, which smells like a tropical beverage that is pretty sweet.  The website says it is pineapple and orange with coconut milk.  I am taking this on my vacation to Mystic on the 20th, there will be a haul from that trip when I get back.  I also got a potetially dangerous for my wallet 20% off coupon.  I will use that and the survey coupon I will get for when I get more Leaves and Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Wallflowers.

After that I went to Yankee Candle to pick up the Apple Pumpkin tart which smells like red apples, pumpkins, cinnamon and cloves.  It was buy one get one 1/2 off, so I got a Kitchen Spice tart half off which is a very spicy scent.  I wish they had Home Sweet Home on that deal because I like that one better than Kitchen Spice, but I prefer Kitchen Spice over Macintosh, which was the third scent on that deal.

CBV Haul: Grandmother's Birthday

By the time you are reading this, I will have had this order for 2 weeks.  All of the scents have cured for a while, so I thought I could do an accurate haul and scent descriptions now.  This will be going up after she receives this so she doesn't know what it is if she read the post.  I am not sponsored by any company mentioned.  All opinions are my own.

Peace (9/10): When she smelled my CBV stuff, she loved this one, so I got her one for herself.  It smells like what it is duping.

Happy (10/10): My favorite from this order.  It smells exactly like the perfume.  She said she likes this perfume so I got her it.

Godfather (10/10): This is one of the best things I have smelled from Victoria's scents.  It has a spicy scent with creaminess and a bakery note.  I don't get any pumpkin.

Coconut Praline (free scent shot) (-34/10): I am not going to smell this one again, it makes me sick to my stomach.   It smells like stale kettle corn and makes me want to vomit.  I do not recommend.

Spiced Vanilla (8/10): Smells similar to Godfather, but this one is creamier than Godfather and doesn't have as much spice as Godfather.  I prefer Godfather, but this one is nice too.

Bergamot & Herbal Mint (9/10): Smells like mint.  To me it kind of smells like Rehab shampoo from LUSH. It isn't a dupe, nor is it exact but it is pretty close.

Oatmeal, Milk and Honey (7/10): This smells like any other product in this scent.  It smells good, but it is nothing special.

Lavender Vanilla (8/10): Lavender Vanilla is her favorite type of scent, so I had to get her this one.  Smells more like the Yankee Candle one as opposed to the Bath and Body Works scent like it says in the description.

Purely Herbal (10/10): Smells clean but it has fruits in it so it isn't a "cotton" or "laundry" type scent.  It is supposed to smell like Herbal Essences shampoo, which I have never used.

Apple Cinnamon Butter (10/10):  I am in love.  The perfect blend of apple, spice and bakery.  Landed up in my favorites.

Warm Apple Fritters: (3/10): I gave it three because it smells good.  I don't get any cinnamon donuts, just a strong macintosh apple scent.

Clove (8/10): This is her favorite spice, it isn't my favorite but this is a good, strong spicy clove scent for the holidays.
